Ahead of the Game

Since we were home yesterday, I go a lot done around the house. Getting those things done freed up time today to get all my coupons clipped, organized in my binder, and the extras ready to be sent out for the coupon train. Since there's no mail tomorrow, I will have to wait until Tuesday to send.

Done for Another Year

Our tax return is done and ready to be filed -- just need to head to the "tax man" to sign it & fork over $$ for a job that took him less than 10 minutes. How many more years do you think it will take me to convince Bob that our return is easy, peasy and we should be using a tax software program and doing it ourselves?

To Dos

Why is it that the days you feel your worst are the same days your to do list is a mile long? I have a lot to do to get ready for my view camera class tomorrow. I know I will get it done, but it is going to take a bit longer than usual with this cold. Deep breaths...I will get it all done!!

Autumn is Coming

Even though our temps are WAY above normal for the this time of year I know the cooler weather is coming. We had a taste of it last week, but it warmed up into the upper 80s & low 90s the last two days.

Instead of being outside working on the yard like I should be, I spent the day organizing our linen closet. I love to clean and organize this time of year. We spend so much more time in the house and/or at home in the cooler months. I like starting that time out with things neatly in their places. It may sound crazy, but I find comfort in having the things around me organized.

The master bedroom closet is next on my to be organized list. That is going to be a chore because I need to get a lot of clothing out of there that we don't wear anymore. A trip to the Goodwill is in my future. I won't be working on that until later next month. ;)

It Works for Us

A few months ago we decided it was time for Olivia to have more responsibility when it comes to chores around the house. At 14, she is old enough that I shouldn't have to do it all. I wanted to come up with a list. Not necessarily just for Olivia's chores, but some sort of checklist that either one of us could follow. That was when I decided to give motivatedmoms.com a try. Yes, I paid for their printable chore planner. It was $8, but it is some of the best money I have ever spent. (If you want to give it a try, it's only $4 now!)

I changed the format and adapted the list for our family/home. Guess what -- it works! Olivia did the some of the chores on the list, and there was very little reminding that she needed to work on a few things on the list through out the day.

I am a big fan of to do lists and love seeing things crossed off so we will continue to use it during the school year. However, Olivia isn't expected to complete as many of those things during the week.

Simple Solution

The doors on our kitchen cabinets have been driving me crazy for some time now! The little foam bumper pads the previous owners had put on to replace the nice ones that should be there were worn out. They were so worn that the adhesive was coming through the foam and causing a few cabinet doors to stick. At times they seems to be glued shut! Thursday morning, I ran to our local Menard's to pick up some better quality bumpers. They are on the doors & no more sticking!

Lots of TaDas Today

Today was one of those days when your to do list seems longer than the hours in the day. Thankfully, most of the things on this list today were finished quickly. It feels good to cross seven things off my list today!

mow & trim lawn
plant window boxes
hang picture
install curtain rods
hang valances
swim 35 minutes
go to grocery store

It isn't time for bed yet so I have time to get more done...lol!! Laundry & sewing are on my list for tonight. The sewing will be nice relaxation after a long day!

Opening A Can of Worms

Do you find yourself adding more work to your day when you decide to do tackle a quick home spruce up project? That happens to me quite often and today was NO exception! The pictures will most likely speak for themselves! :)

Before

Those dirty rings!

After

As you can probably see, today's light fixture project lead to painting the ceiling. I am a neat freak and had no idea the ceiling was so disgusting up there. We replaced a light fixture in the entry last spring, and the ceiling on the first floor wasn't anything like this. I wonder if the previous owners (smokers) didn't paint that part of the ceiling when the painted the rest of the house before putting it on the market. At least now it is all crisp and clean!

I am very pleased with the results! I can't wait to see how it is once it is dark tonight.

Here's the light fixture we put up last spring. It was one of the pieces we brought back from Bob's great aunt's place in Florida.

Mission Accomplished

When we have a simple job on a to do list why do we put it off for so long?

About three weeks ago I moved our phone/answering machine from the bedroom into the den. It just makes more sense in here. This, of course, created a problem. I needed another socket to plug the iron into. Since there was an unused extension cord in here. I started unplugging the TV every morning, plugging in that extension cord, plugging the TV into that, and then plugging in the iron. After I was done ironing I would reverse the process. I know it's silly and you are probably wondering why I didn't just leave the extension cord there. Well, I have this thing about cords and them being see in my house. They drive me crazy!!

Well, shortly after I moved the phone and discovered my outlet dilemma, I remembered we had a turn-one-socket-into-three gizmo being used in the family room where a surge protector would make more sense. An extra surge protector was in the basement. So if I don't even have to remember to pick up these items at the store why did it take nearly three weeks for me to cross it off my list?

Today I move it to my Ta Da list...lol!!
